Athletic Competition in Compiègne Transpires

In the Lower Bavarian district capital, Landshut, a significant cultural exchange program is currently underway between the "Landshuter Ruderverein von 1952" and the "Sport Nautique Compiegnoise" (SNC) from France. The exchange program, initiated by rowing coach Dr. Winfried Benda, has brought a group of young French rowers to Landshut.

Mayor Alexander Putz emphasized the importance of such mutual visits in strengthening relationships between partner cities. He noted that in these uncertain global times and with the ongoing war in Europe, understanding between peoples has become more crucial than ever.

Carolin Soika, chairperson of the city's youth council, thanked the responsible persons from both clubs for their commitment and highlighted the importance of exchange programs. She expressed that sports, culture, and language are key elements in bringing people together and fostering friendships.

The program in Landshut includes training sessions on the Isar, a trip to the Olympic rowing venue in Oberschleißheim, a city tour, and a visit to the Bartlmäul fair. The guests from France are accommodated in host families during their stay, a practice that has helped to turn strangers into friends.

The French rowers are currently participating in their training sessions on the Isar. They were welcomed by Deputy Mayor Dr. Thomas Haslinger in the town hall's ceremonial hall on Wednesday.

This exchange program follows a visit by a group from Landshut to France last year for training and exploration. The group is also visiting the Olympic rowing venue in Oberschleißheim during their stay in Landshut.

Carolin Soika expressed her gratitude for the commitment of the responsible persons from both clubs. She reiterated that such exchange programs are crucial in these times, as they help to bridge cultural gaps and foster international friendships. The exchange program will continue until its end on Saturday.
