Atlanta Baseball Team, Atlanta Braves, conducts yearly 9/11 tribute stair jaunt at Truist Park stadium
The city of Atlanta, Georgia, played host to the annual Patriot Day 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb over the weekend, with firefighters, first responders, and community members gathering at Truist Park to remember and honour those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The event, organised by the Atlanta Braves Foundation, Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, and Georgia Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society, started with opening ceremonies on Saturday morning. Captain Ben Holley of Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services performed the National Anthem, and a symbolic "missing man" flyover took place. A moment of silence was observed to pay respect to the fallen heroes.
The memorial stair climb symbolises the 110 flights of stairs that New York City firefighters ascended inside the Twin Towers, totalling more than 2,000 steps. Each participant carried a lanyard with the name and photo of someone who died on 9/11 as a personal act of remembrance.
Proceeds from the event are used to provide scholarships, medical emergency grants, lifesaving equipment, and training for Georgia firefighters and their families. The American Red Cross also participated in the organisation of the event. A piece of steel from the World Trade Center was displayed at the ballpark during the event, serving as a poignant reminder of the tragedy.
Donations can be made online to support Georgia firefighters and their families. The Patriot Day 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is an annual event, and it continues to be a powerful tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that fateful day.
The event is not just a climb, but a chance for the community to come together, remember, and honour the heroes of 9/11. It's a testament to the resilience and spirit of Atlanta and the nation as a whole.
