Authorities apprehended two individuals and launched a manhunt for the purchaser of counterfeit jewelery

In the heart of Lünen, Dortmund, on Saturday, June 28th, a suspicious sale of jewelry from a car in Viktoriastraße was observed by civilian police officers. According to the Dortmund Police, the sale was suspected to involve fraudulent activities, such as the sale of counterfeit gold.

During the incident, which occurred at approximately 17:00, two individuals, a 48-year-old driver and a 46-year-old passenger, were found to be Romanian citizens with no fixed address in Germany. The driver attempted to flee, but a brief pursuit resulted in their arrest.

After identification and payment of a €750 bail, the two suspects were released from the station. The buyer of the jewelry, described as a woman in her mid-50s and slim, remains unknown.

The Dortmund Police are urging caution when it comes to street sales, emphasising that they are often dubious and may involve counterfeit goods. They advise buyers to only purchase from trustworthy sellers who can provide certificates of authenticity and guarantees.

When buying gold, the police offer the following tips: educate yourself about the typical characteristics of real gold, conduct an authenticity test before making a purchase, and be wary of unusually cheap offers as counterfeit gold is often sold at cheap prices.

In addition, the police seized two counterfeit mobile phones and a low two-digit amount of cash from the vehicle during the search. For any information regarding the buyer, the Dortmund Criminal Investigation Department can be contacted at 0231/132-7441.

It is important to remember that avoiding cash payments to unknown sellers and using secure payment methods can help protect consumers from such incidents.

This incident serves as a reminder to stay vigilant and informed when making purchases, especially in uncertain situations. The Dortmund Police continue to investigate this case and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
