Authorities are seeking additional testimony and evidence in the wake of the incident in Solingen.

In a shocking turn of events, the Düsseldorf Police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the knife attack that occurred during the city's 650th anniversary celebration on August 23, 2024.

The attack, which took place at around 21:37, targeted multiple festival attendees near a performance stage. Tragically, despite immediate first aid, three people were killed in the attack, and six others were severely injured.

The suspect, identified as Issa al Hasan, a 27-year-old Syrian, was apprehended on August 24th. He is alleged to have used a knife in the attack and acted with Islamist motives.

Al Hasan is currently in investigative custody, and the request for his custody was made by the Federal Prosecutor's Office. He was later sentenced to life imprisonment with subsequent preventive detention.

The Düsseldorf Police are urging the public to provide any information they may have about the suspect's whereabouts between August 23rd and 24th. They can contact the police at 0211 / 870 - 4084 or email their information to [email protected].

The police are also asking for information about the origin of a pictured rain jacket, which was found at the scene of the crime.

Initially, reports suggested an unknown male suspect was responsible for the attack. However, further investigation revealed the identity of the suspect, and no new information about the number of casualties or the location of the attack was provided.
