Authorities conducted extensive searches on approximately 490 individuals and 300 vehicles, concluding with a 27-year-old evading capture.
In the heart of Dortmund, the city police took to the streets on Thursday, 3rd April, for a significant control day aimed at combating the main causes of accidents. The operation, which took place in the northern city centre and the western part of the city, saw approximately 500 people and 300 vehicles checked.
The day began with a dramatic incident involving a high-speed pursuit. A driver in a Passat, who was later identified as a 27-year-old from Hagen, fled during controls at the Emscherallee control point. The driver disregarded traffic rules, driving at up to three times the speed limit, overtaking vehicles, and disregarding red lights. The pursuit continued over Varzinerstraße and Urbanusstraße towards Kirchlinde, with the driver swerving onto the oncoming lane and driving through intersections on red.
Despite the potential danger to pedestrians and passersby, the officers temporarily discontinued the pursuit. The Passat was later located in Oskarweg and seized by the police. The driver was apprehended nearby. Blood samples were taken from the driver for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Six other drivers under the influence of intoxicants were detected during all controls. Corresponding criminal and administrative offense proceedings have been initiated following the seizure. Blood samples were also taken from these drivers as evidence, and proceedings for administrative offenses have been initiated against all of them.
At the control point on Mallinckrodtstraße, the police seized approximately 90 rounds of ammunition and a blank-firing weapon in two vehicles. Two other individuals who drew the attention of the officers at the control point on Brackeler Street were unable to pay their warrants on the spot. They were taken to the police station and released after paying the amounts.
At a control in Schleswiger Street, a person wanted on a warrant was encountered. They paid the required amount and was released. The day's operations also resulted in several other traffic violations being addressed, although specific details were not available regarding these incidents.
The Dortmund police regularly conduct control days to combat the main causes of accidents, including speed, alcohol/drugs, and distraction. The city's police force remains committed to ensuring the safety of its residents and visitors.
