In a significant development, a case of suspected professional and organized fraud of subsidies related to the COVID-19 pandemic and KfW loans is under investigation in North Rhine-Westphalia. This operation, being handled by the Central and Contact Point for the Prosecution of Organized Crime in North Rhine-Westphalia (ZeOS NRW), has seen search measures taking place in various cities across the region.

The focus of the investigation is on five German or Turkish suspects, aged between 29 and 55. Investigators from ZeOS NRW obtained arrest warrants for four of these suspects prior to the measures. The four suspects were arrested, and they will be brought before the remand court later today.

The alleged damage caused by this fraud is approximately 7 million euros. The method used by the suspects involves a network of shell companies and numerous straw men.
