Automotive industries are now receiving UFS Ver. 4.1 Embedded Flash Memory Devices from Kioxia for their applications, marking a significant advancement in storage technology for this sector.
Kioxia Corporation Unveils Next-Generation UFS 4.1 Devices for Automotive Applications
Kioxia Corporation, a global leader in memory solutions, has taken a significant step forward in the automotive industry with the introduction of its new Universal Flash Storage (UFS) Ver. 4.1 embedded memory devices. These innovative devices are designed to meet the demands of next-generation in-vehicle systems.
The new UFS 4.1 devices integrate Kioxia's groundbreaking BiCS FLASHTM 3D flash memory and a controller in a JEDEC-standard package. They are available in capacities of 128 gigabytes (GB), 256GB, 512GB, and 1 terabyte (TB). Kioxia Corporation began the sample shipment of 128 GB UFS 4.1 memory devices for automotive applications on August 29, 2023.
The new UFS 4.1 devices deliver impressive performance improvements. They offer approximately 2.1 times sequential read performance, 2.5 times sequential write performance, 2.1 times random read performance, and 3.7 times random write performance compared to their predecessors.
In addition to enhanced performance, the new UFS 4.1 devices include enhanced diagnostic capabilities. A new vendor-specific device health descriptor has been added to these devices, providing improved insight into their operational status. They are also compliant with the UFS 4.1 Specification, which includes WriteBooster related extensions.
It's important to note that while read and write speeds are the best values obtained in a specific test environment at Kioxia Corporation, the company warrants neither read nor write speeds in individual devices. Speeds may vary depending on the device used and the file size read or written.
The new UFS 4.1 devices are engineered using generation 8 BiCS FLASHTM 3D flash memory. This technology, which is shaping the future of storage in high-density applications, contributes to the devices' robust performance and reliability.
The new UFS 4.1 devices meet AEC-Q100/104 Grade 2 standards, supporting case temperature up to 115°C. They are designed to fit the needs of infotainment, Advanced Driving Assistant Systems (ADAS), telematics, domain controllers, and vehicle computers.
For those unfamiliar with storage terminology, 1 TB equals 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, 1 GB equals 1,073,741,824 bytes, 1 KB equals 1,024 bytes, and MB/s is calculated as 1,000,000 bytes/s.
Kioxia Corporation's commitment to innovation and quality continues to drive the development of cutting-edge memory solutions. With the introduction of the new UFS 4.1 devices, Kioxia Corporation is once again at the forefront of the memory solutions industry, providing solutions that are shaping the future of automotive technology.
