In a historic sale, the legendary red lightsaber used by Darth Vader in the beloved "Star Wars" films, "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," was sold at auction for a staggering $3.65 million (£2.7 million) on Thursday. The auction, held by Propstore, was part of a three-day entertainment memorabilia live event in Los Angeles.

The lightsaber, which is the original screen-matched, hero dueling lightsaber prop, was expected to sell for between $1 million and $3 million. This iconic film prop, one of the most memorable from the original "Star Wars" trilogy, showed signs of wear, including a crack on the back of the shroud and a broken grip. These signs of wear serve as compelling evidence of the lightsaber's direct involvement in the action.

The lightsaber was used by both David Prowse and Bob Anderson, who portrayed Darth Vader in the suit and performed the lightsaber action sequences, respectively. The sale of the lightsaber is particularly significant as it was used in the famous scene where Darth Vader tells Luke Skywalker, "I am your father."

Other notable items included in the auction were the hazmat suits worn by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul in "Breaking Bad," the suit worn by Michael Keaton in "Batman," and the whip used by Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

With this sale, the Darth Vader lightsaber has once again proven its enduring appeal and significance in the world of film memorabilia. The new owner will not only possess a piece of cinematic history but also a testament to the thrilling action and iconic moments from the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
