New 2026 Tesla Model Y L Debuts with Enhanced Features and Design
Tesla has unveiled the extended version of its popular electric SUV, the Model Y, named the Model Y L. The new model boasts several upgrades and design changes, making it an even more attractive option for consumers.
The Model Y L features a larger 16-inch infotainment system, a significant increase from the previous 15.6-inch display. Additionally, the vehicle comes with a new black rear spoiler, 'Model YYY' badging, 19-inch alloy wheels, and the option of a fresh Starlight Gold paint.
One of the most noticeable changes is the extended dimensions. The Model Y L has longer rear doors, a lengthened roof, and an increased rear overhang, providing more space and comfort for passengers. The car measures 4976mm long, 1920mm wide, 1668mm tall, and has a 3040mm wheelbase, making it larger than the standard model by 150mm in wheelbase.
The interior of the Model Y L also receives some updates. The front seats now have a single piece backrest that integrates the headrests, and the second row retains the 8-inch touchscreen and a pair of rear vents. However, the second row now features two heated and ventilated captain chairs, replacing the bench seat. The third row of seats is also equipped with heating, a welcome addition for those cold winter mornings.
Reports suggest that the third row may also come with a new 100mm high central hump, which could affect legroom for the middle passenger.
The Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor set-up and is equipped with an 82kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack. The vehicle can accelerate from 0-100km/h in an impressive 4.5 seconds and covers 751km on the CLTC range tests. The car also features a retuned suspension with standard adaptive dampers for a smoother ride.
The Model Y L is currently only available for order in China, with first deliveries starting in September. The price in China is 339,000 Chinese yuan ($72,700). In Australia, the Model Y L could be priced from $74,500 plus on-roads. Interestingly, it is likely that the car brand likely to offer the extended version of the best-selling electric SUV in Australia is Leapmotor.
In conclusion, the 2026 Tesla Model Y L offers a spacious and comfortable ride with its extended dimensions, along with a host of new features and design changes. The vehicle's impressive performance and range, coupled with its competitive pricing, make it an exciting addition to Tesla's lineup.
