Baker from Bayern's basketball team demonstrate resilience in their season debut versus Milan
In the heart of Sardinia, Italy, the Bayern basketball team has been honing their skills in their season preparation. The team participated in a four-team tournament in Cagliari, where they put up a valiant fight against some of Europe's finest.
The tournament began on a high note for Bayern, with standout performances from guest player Tibor Pleiß and former Bayern player Devin Booker. Pleiß, a centre veteran, made a strong impression with 12 points in the opening game against Milan. Booker, leading the team, demonstrated his prowess with his undeniable leadership.
Xavier Rathan-Mayes, another guest player, also made a good impression with a solid 15 points in the game against Milan. His dynamic playstyle added a new dimension to the Bayern offence.
The team's young talents also shone bright, contributing significantly to the team's efforts. Five professionals from Bayern were still in action at the EM during the tournament, providing valuable experience and guidance.
One of the highlights of the tournament was Kamar Baldwin's performance for the German team. With a Georgian passport, Baldwin has been a standout performer at the EM, scoring an impressive 24 points in a game where the German team eliminated the favoured French team in the round of 16.
Coach Gordon Herbert, recognising the team's hard work and commitment, gave the players a well-deserved half day off after the tournament. However, the celebrations were short-lived as Bayern lost the final of the tournament to Olimpia Milan, with a score of 75:89.
Despite the loss, the Bayern team showed great resilience and team spirit throughout the tournament. With the potential replacement for Elias Harris currently being discussed, the arrival of Canadian wing player Isiaha Mike, after his stint with the Maple Leafs at the Ameri-Cup, could provide a fresh boost to the team. If Bayern were to sign Pleiß, he could also potentially help Bayern during Harris' absence.
The Bayern basketball team returns home with valuable lessons learnt and a renewed determination for the upcoming season. The team's performance in the tournament serves as a testament to their potential and their unwavering spirit.
