Balloons ascend Bristol skies in anticipation of the annual festivity
The city of Bristol is gearing up for its annual celebration, as the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta prepares to return from August 8 to 10. This year's programme promises a delightful mix of beloved classics and exciting new additions, honouring Bristol's rich hot air balloon heritage.
The fiesta will take place at the picturesque Ashton Court Estate, where more than 100 balloons are expected to participate in the mass ascents, scheduled for 6am and 6pm each day, weather permitting.
The new mayor of the West of England, Helen Godwin, has expressed her excitement about the event, stating that the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is a special event for those growing up in the West Country. Unfortunately, our search results did not reveal the specific article mentioning her.
Among the new additions to the Fiesta are the Up balloon, Wallace and Gromit Moon Rocket, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Sonic the Hedgehog. The Hot Air Balloon Company, based near Bath, will be one of the key players in this year's event.
Steve Thomas, a pilot from the Hot Air Balloon Company, commented on the perfect morning for flying over Bristol as the balloons launched from College Green in the heart of the city on Friday. The launch offered stunning views of Bristol's City Hall, cathedral, historic harbourside, and Temple Meads train station.
The fiesta marks a significant milestone, as it traces its roots back to the 18th century, with the first recorded hot air balloon flight in Bristol. The event has grown over the years and has become a significant attraction, drawing visitors from far and wide.
On both Friday and Saturday evenings, visitors can experience nightglows, where dozens of balloons inflate and use their burners to glow in time to music. This spectacular display is not to be missed.
The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is a free event, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all. So, mark your calendars and get ready to witness the skies of Bristol come alive with the vibrant colours of hot air balloons!
