Bank's Removal of KBF League Trophy from Hawks Team Announced
Kenya Women's Basketball Premier League: KPA and Zetech University Sparks Advance to the Final
In the ongoing Kenyan Women's Basketball Premier League, two teams have secured their spots in the final round. The final match-up is yet to be determined, with KPA and Zetech University Sparks progressing from their respective series.
In the first semi-final, KPA clinched a 3-1 victory against Equity Bank Hawks. The series saw some impressive individual performances, with Yvonne Atieno leading the charge for KPA, scoring 19 points in one of their games. Aminata Samasekou and Alima Doumbia added 12 points each to the team's total. Melissa Akinyi was the top scorer for Hawks, netting 16 points in a game.
Hawks started the series on a high note, winning the first game. However, KPA bounced back from a 9-18 deficit at the end of the first quarter to win the game 71-48, setting the tone for the rest of the series.
Meanwhile, Zetech University Sparks qualified for the final by defeating Strathmore University Swords 67-53, following a 3-0 win in their series.
In the men's division, Nairobi City Thunder has maintained a flawless run in the second season, securing a 3-0 win against Umoja Basketball Club. Faheem Juma and Derrick Ogechi scored 17 and 15 points respectively for Thunder, while Victor Bosire scored a match high 25 points for Umoja, but it was not enough to salvage their campaign.
Thunder will face either KPA or Ulinzi Warriors in the best-of-five final battle, with the winner set to be crowned the new champions. This final round promises to be an exciting climax to the season, with both teams eager to lift the coveted KBF women's Premier League title.
Interestingly, if Zetech University Sparks emerge victorious, they will become the second varsity side to win the title, following in the footsteps of United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) Flames. For KPA, this final is a chance for revenge, as they lost their title to Hawks last season.
The final round of the Kenyan Women's Basketball Premier League is scheduled for the autumn of 2022, and basketball fans are eagerly awaiting this highly anticipated showdown.
