Real Madrid Signs NBA Veteran Trey Lyles for a One-Year Deal

Trey Lyles, a seasoned NBA player, is set to make a move to Europe as he finalizes a one-year contract with Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid. The deal, reportedly worth $3 million, marks Lyles' first signing with a European club.

Lyles, who turns 30 in November, has had an impressive career in the NBA, playing in 650 regular-season games (131 starts) for various teams, including the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, and most recently, the Sacramento Kings.

In his last season with the Kings, Lyles averaged 6.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 19.6 minutes per game. His contributions were instrumental in helping the Kings secure the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and win 48 games in the 2022-23 season.

Real Madrid, who won both the regular season and playoffs of the Liga ACB last season, is looking to strengthen its roster for the upcoming campaign. The team, coached by Sergio Scariolo, has already added several former NBA players such as Chuma Okeke, Theo Maledon, and Mario Hezonja.

However, Real Madrid's EuroLeague journey last season ended in the quarterfinals. With the addition of Lyles, the team hopes to make a stronger push in the competition this time around.

Lyles' shooting statistics in the NBA are impressive, with a 44.1% field goal percentage and a 34.7% three-point percentage. This accuracy from the field could prove valuable for Real Madrid as they look to dominate both the Liga ACB and the EuroLeague.

Interestingly, Lyles was reportedly linked to the Miami Heat this offseason, but the team decided to re-sign Dru Smith instead. Despite this, Lyles' talent and experience were too attractive for Real Madrid to pass up.

Real Madrid, with its rich history of success, boasts an impressive 38 Spanish league championships and 11 EuroLeague titles. With the addition of Lyles, they aim to add to these tallies in the 2023-24 season.
