Bayern's New Residence in Roth Marks an Exciting Beginning for THW
THW Construction Program Brings Modern Facilities to Roth
The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) is set to modernize its facilities with the construction of new buildings as part of the THW construction program 2020-2030. One of these new accommodations will be built in Roth, Bavaria.
The THW local association Roth, founded in 1953, is a part of the Bavarian regional association. The new building, with around 900 square meters of usable space, will be the home of 105 volunteers. It will feature a hall with twelve parking spaces, providing ample room for THW vehicles and diverse material.
The construction project in Roth is being carried out jointly by the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks (BImA), the Bavarian North Building Directorate, the State Building Authority Nuremberg, and the THW. The Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BImA) is the client and owner of the new barracks, and it is the central real estate company of the federal government.
The modernization of THW facilities is seen as the right way to a more deployable and resilient civil protection, according to THW President Sabine Lackner. The new buildings will provide more space for training and exercises for the deployment forces, addressing the issue of many THW accommodations no longer meeting increased requirements for modern accommodation.
Goldbeck won the tender for the first framework agreement, which provides for the construction of up to 60 new THW barracks. The company collaborates with various construction firms and contractors for the projects, rather than a single dedicated company.
In Bavaria, there are 111 local THW associations with approximately 16,000 volunteers. The volunteer forces in Roth are involved in local disaster prevention and larger THW deployments at federal and state association level.
The construction program aims to strengthen civilian protection in Germany by creating up to 200 modern, functional, and sustainable new buildings nationwide for the THW. During the construction of the new buildings, energy efficiency, climate protection, and sustainability are key considerations. Integrated heat pumps and photovoltaic systems on buildings and halls increase the energy independence of the local associations in case of a blackout.
The overall project management for the THW construction program lies with the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, acting on behalf of the state building administrations. The company awarded the contract to build the 60 new THW accommodations is the THW itself, demonstrating a commitment to collaboration and efficient use of resources.
The THW is the federal volunteer deployment organization with approximately 88,000 volunteers nationwide. The modern, sustainable technologies and methods used in the construction of new buildings align with the BImA's commitment to creating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly facilities.
This new THW accommodation in Roth is one of up to 30 new THW facilities with vehicle halls being constructed nationwide, reflecting the need for modern, functional, and sustainable facilities to support the vital work of the THW volunteers.
