BCCI Annual General Meeting: Acceptance of Nominations for Elections Scheduled for September 20th and 21st; Here's the Nitty-Gritty

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold its elections and Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on September 28, 2023. This significant event coincides with the day the 2025 Men's T20 Asia Cup final is scheduled, raising the possibility of none of the BCCI office bearers being present for it, should India qualify for the title clash.

Currently, Prabhtej Bhatia serves as the Treasurer of BCCI, while Saikia holds the position of Secretary. Rajeev Shukla, who became the BCCI Vice-President in late 2020, is managing things at the top due to former India cricketer Roger Binny's ineligibility to continue as President after turning 70 on July 19.

The elections will be held for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, one member of the Apex Council, and two members of the Governing Council. Sourav Ganguly is among the candidates contesting the position of President, with Jay Shah vying for the Secretary role. The candidates for other positions will be announced after the final candidate list is published on September 23, 2022.

Candidates have the option to withdraw from the elections on September 23. Objections, if any, can be filed on September 14 and 15. The deadline for filing nomination applications is 8:00 PM on September 12. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on September 22, and the final electoral roll will be published on September 19. The draft electoral roll will be released on September 13.

The AGM's agenda also includes the establishment of a new IPL Governing Council and the Women's Premier League (WPL) panel. The Lodha Committee guidelines will be followed for the elections, as the National Sports Act is yet to be implemented.

If India qualifies for the final of the 2025 Men's T20 Asia Cup, the BCCI office bearers will have to make a tough decision between their duties and supporting the team. The 2023 BCCI elections and AGM promise to be an eventful occasion, with significant changes and decisions on the horizon for Indian cricket.
