Beekeepers enhance their trip to the Botanical Garden in Solingen with honey production
In the heart of Solingen, a city renowned for its rich history and vibrant culture, a unique event took place at the Botanical Garden. Visitors were treated to an educational and delightful experience, as they had the opportunity to observe honeybees at work and taste the delectable honey produced by these hardworking insects.
The day was filled with the buzz of honeybees and the aromatic scent of fresh honey. The bees, well-cared-for by local beekeepers, could be seen busy at work throughout the garden. A glass-walled observation hive was brought along, offering a closer look at the queen and worker bees as they went about their daily tasks.
The honey, ranging from runny to creamy in consistency, was all from this year's harvest and was available for tasting at the Solingen beekeepers' stand. Different types of honey were on offer, each with its unique flavour and aroma. Whether you preferred a subtle, floral note or a robust, fruity taste, there was something for everyone.
For those who preferred a savoury treat, freshly grilled sausages were also available. The combination of the sweet honey and the savoury sausages made for a delightful culinary experience.
It's important to note that while honeybees were the focus of this event, they are not the primary concern when discussing the decline of bees. Wild bees are the real cause for concern, and efforts to protect and conserve these essential pollinators are ongoing.
Interestingly, Solingen is home to around 1000 bee colonies, many of which are located in gardens. Among these beekeepers are individuals like Volker Wieschollek from "Ruhrpott-Biene," who maintains four beehives on the roof of the inclusive hotel Neues Pastorat and manages about 8,000 bees there.
This event served as a reminder of the importance of bees in our ecosystem and the delicious treats they produce. Whether you're a honey lover or just someone interested in learning more about these fascinating insects, a day at the Botanical Garden was a sweet experience indeed.
