Benfica supporters can rejoice as Noronha Lopes made an announcement that should delight them.
In the upcoming elections for the presidency of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, several candidates have put forward their proposals to strengthen the club's position. One of the candidates, João Noronha Lopes, has suggested a comprehensive plan to boost revenue and modernise Benfica.
Lopes' plan includes strengthening corporate and executive seats, diversifying partnerships, and global content through Benfica Media House. He also proposes a global distribution agreement for official Benfica merchandise and a profound transformation of Benfica's digital strategy.
However, Lopes has accused the current president, Rui Costa, and his Board of management mistakes, specifically pointing to the increase in the price of the Red Pass. In response, Lopes has proposed to freeze the increase in the price of the Red Pass until 2029.
Rui Costa, who is currently in office, is also a candidate for the presidency. He will face competition from a group of candidates that includes João Diogo Manteigas, Martim Mayer, Cristóvão Carvalho, Luís Filipe Vieira, and Lopes himself.
A letter signed by 116 Benfica members was addressed to president Rui Costa and José Pereira da Costa, requesting the availability of polling stations across mainland Portugal, the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, and abroad. The 116 signatories have not been publicly listed by name, but their desire is clear: to ensure every Benfica member has the opportunity to vote on October 25, 2025, no matter where they are in the world.
An extensive group of Benfica fans have also written a letter requesting that no member be more than 30 kilometers away from a voting booth. This desire is to make the voting process as accessible as possible for all Benfica members.
In the coming weeks, Desporto ao Minuto will conduct interviews with the candidates for Benfica's presidency, providing a platform for them to discuss their plans in more detail.
Lopes has also proposed to increase the stadium's capacity and modernise it. His measure, if elected president in the first round of elections on October 25th, could mark a significant step forward for the club's infrastructure.
As the election approaches, the candidates' proposals will be under scrutiny, and the Benfica community will have the opportunity to make an informed decision about the future of their beloved club.
