Democracy Festival in Berlin Celebrates International Day of Democracy

Berlin is set to host a participatory festival on the topic of democracy this Sunday and Monday, in celebration of the International Day of Democracy on the 15th of September. The event, taking place in front of the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek in Kreuzberg, is expected to attract around 3,000 visitors, twice as many as last year.

The festival's program was presented by the State Secretary for Civic Cohesity, Oliver Friederici (CDU). According to Friederici, participating actively and feeling involved in the festival reduces susceptibility to ideologies on the fringes of the political spectrum.

The festival aims to make democracy tangible, understandable, and accessible, particularly for young people and the broader urban society. Visitors can engage in various activities, such as printing T-shirts, recording podcasts, answering quiz questions about democracy, and visiting a mobile citizen's office.

Numerous stands will be available for visitors to gather information throughout the festival. Organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, Omas for Future, the Berlin State Center for Political Education, the State Volunteer Agency, the Chorverband Berlin, and the State Music Council are among those participating in the event.

The cultural administration supports the festival as part of Democracy Day Berlin, organised by the Zukunft Berlin Foundation. The street festival intends to make the diversity of democratic engagement in Berlin visible and motivate people to get involved in society.

The festival is part of a wider initiative, with the organizers being around 50 associations and organizations. However, beyond Zukunft Berlin Stiftung, the specific names of other organizations participating in the Demokratiefestival on the 15th of September in Kreuzberg could not be found in the provided data.

The festival is a significant part of the city's efforts to promote democratic values and engage its citizens in meaningful discussions and activities. Visitors are encouraged to attend and participate in this unique event.
