Get ready, sky-watchers! The autumn and winter of 2025 are set to be a spectacle for astronomy enthusiasts, with a unique event known as the Corn Moon taking centre stage.

The Corn Moon, also known as the Harvest Moon, will appear on the night of September 7, 2025. However, contrary to tradition, it will not be the Harvest Moon as the Harvest Moon rises on October 6. Instead, this year's Corn Moon will be a full moon coinciding with a total lunar eclipse, a rare event often referred to as a 'blood Moon'.

This lunar eclipse will be visible from Europe, parts of Africa, Asia, and Australia. For those observing from the UK or Europe, it's necessary to catch the Moon as it's rising to make the most of the eclipse. The Moon will rise in the east around sunset and will already be eclipsed as it rises, presenting a stunning sight.

Adak, a city in Alaska, will be the best location in North America to view the September 7 lunar eclipse, as western parts of Alaska may see the blood Moon as it sets. Eastern parts of Argentina may also catch a portion of the lunar eclipse as the Moon rises.

The best countries to see the full 'blood Moon' eclipse will be in the eastern parts of Africa, central Asia (including India and China), and the western half of Australia. In Germany, the visibility of the Corn Moon will be during the lunar eclipse from 19:30 to 20:52 CEST (Central European Summer Time). The entire eclipse phase is visible in parts of Europe during this time.

As the Corn Moon rises, it will be accompanied by another celestial wonder: Saturn. On the evenings of 6-8 September, the Moon and Saturn will be rising in the same patch of sky, making for a beautiful naked-eye pairing. Saturn is approaching opposition on September 21, 2025, which is the best time to see the planet. The Moon and Saturn will be closest together on Monday, 8 September, as they rise above the eastern horizon after sunset.

Astronomy season is well and truly upon us, with the nights getting darker and these two celestial bodies providing a captivating spectacle in the autumn and winter night sky. If you're lucky enough to witness this unique event, we encourage you to share your observations and photographs by emailing contactus@our website.

In addition to the Corn Moon and the lunar eclipse, the coming full Moons in October, November, and December 2025 will be consecutive supermoons. So, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable astronomical journey!
