BMW's 2026 iX3 Model Nearly Stops Completely Without Engaging its Brake System
The BMW Group has unveiled its latest offering, the 2026 BMW iX3, a fully electric vehicle (EV) that showcases the Neue Klasse design style and architecture. This new model is being marketed as a performance driving instrument, promising an enjoyable EV driving experience unlike any other.
Christian Thalmeier, a BMW Group driving experience development expert, has emphasised the importance of "the joy of stopping" in the car's design. He highlighted the significance of regenerative braking, or "recuperation," in the car's character. Unlike previous systems, the iX3 uses the electric motors for braking in all driving modes.
Thalmeier explained that precise control of electric engines can make a car brake smoothly. The new brake programming in the iX3 aims to eliminate the use of friction brakes, resulting in smooth stops without any jerk. Most stops and transitions in the iX3 will be done via controlled regenerative braking.
BMW claims that a typical iX3 driver will rarely use the traditional friction brakes. The iX3 is expected to do "90% to 98%" of its braking using regenerative braking, potentially going its entire service life on a single set of pads and rotors. This makes the iX3 promise "the smoothest stops in the history of BMW."
The iX3's electric motor management might provide an even more enjoyable EV driving experience compared to fake shifters or funky space noises. The consistent electric motor management in the iX3 will make anyone behind the wheel feel like a better driver without necessarily knowing exactly why.
The 2026 BMW iX3 also boasts precise steering, palpable agility, and confidence-inspiring stability. Thalmeier himself announced that the new BMW iX3 aims for the "most precise control of the electric motors" to enable drivers to "enjoy braking."
The BMW iX3's new brake programming aims to virtually eliminate the use of friction brakes. This innovative approach is expected to revolutionise the driving experience, setting a new standard for EVs.
The iX3, with its focus on regenerative braking and smooth stops, is set to redefine the electric vehicle driving experience. With its Neue Klasse design, performance-oriented driving characteristics, and innovative brake system, the BMW iX3 is undoubtedly a game-changer in the EV market.
