BMW's fresh start: iX3 to initiate Neue Klasse at IAA Mobility 2025, heralding a new chapter for the automaker
In the heart of Munich this September, the automotive world is abuzz with anticipation as BMW unveils its ambitious plans for the electric, connected, and sustainable era at the IAA Mobility 2025.
The event, marked by a sustainability push, mirrors similar practices at the Summit. BMW's BMW Welt venue is debuting a new high-power charging hub, a testament to this commitment. Designed by BMW's own Designworks studio, the hub boasts eight rapid charging points, ready to power BMW's electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids.
At the forefront of BMW's showcase is the all-new BMW iX3, the first Neue Klasse production model from BMW. This technology flagship signals what's to come for the entire BMW range, including electric and combustion models. The iX3 is set to debut the sixth-generation eDrive system, paving the way for future BMW models.
The iX3 is not just a step forward in technology; it's a nod to BMW's heritage. The car's debut is BMW laying down a marker, posing the question whether it can match the legacy of the 1961 BMW 1500, the original Neue Klasse star, which BMW Classic has brought to the event as a nod to the brand's past.
Inside the iX3, drivers will find the BMW Panoramic iDrive, a sweeping display spanning the lower windscreen, paired with a new multifunction steering wheel and central screen. The "Heart of Joy" high-performance computer will orchestrate driving dynamics, ensuring a smooth and exhilarating ride.
The iX3 will not stand alone. It will be joined by a supporting cast that includes the i4, i5, i7, iX, X3 30e xDrive, and the new M5 Touring plug-in hybrid. The BMW Charging showcase will also include the iX, i5, and plug-in hybrids alongside bidirectional charging, a first for BMW, allowing the cars to feed energy back into a home supply or the public grid.
BMW's commitment to merging high-tech ambition with a nod to its heritage is evident throughout the event. Mini is unveiling two new John Cooper Works show cars and a refreshed Mini Pavilion, while BMW Motorrad is presenting the CE 02, CE 04 electric scooters, and the Vision CE concept.
As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, BMW is leading the charge, demonstrating that innovation and tradition can coexist, creating a new chapter in its brand story. The IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich is a testament to this, showcasing BMW's commitment to a brighter, more electric, and more connected tomorrow.
