Boost your dog's appetite with these three easy games: Discover the simplicity yourself! (We were astonished at how effortless they proved!)
Happy Dogs Training, led by Piper M Novick, has recommended three games to help increase a dog's food drive. These games, designed to stimulate both physical and mental activity, can be particularly useful for dogs with a low food drive.
The first game is called "Track and Toss". In this game, the owner moves a treat in their hand and encourages the dog to follow it with their eyes before tossing the treat. Phrases like "Do you see it?", "Are you ready?", and "Are you gonna get it?" are used to build anticipation and excitement.
Another game is "Chase and feed". This involves encouraging a dog to follow the owner by moving away and feeding them afterwards. The third game, "Restrain and toss", involves tossing a treat a few feet ahead while restraining the dog (with a leash or hand on collar), building anticipation with voice commands, and then releasing the dog to get the treat.
For dogs with a high food drive, using food can be an effective motivating tool during training. However, for those with a low food drive, it is important to use highly motivating treats and gradually build positive associations with food rewards during training.

Happy Dogs Training also suggests engaging in other brain games for dogs, with another 10 great brain games for dogs available for added inspiration. It is important to note that if a dog has issues with their food drive, it might indicate an underlying health issue, and in such cases, it is recommended to see a vet.
