Boosting Red Sox victory with Duran's thrilling inside-the-park homerun, avoiding a 5-2 scoreline and a Pirates series sweep
Boston Red Sox Edge Past Pittsburgh Pirates in Thrilling Game
The Boston Red Sox secured a much-needed victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates, winning 5-2 on Sunday. Jarren Duran was the star of the show, hitting an inside-the-park homerun in the fifth inning that pushed the Red Sox ahead 4-1.
Coming off his best start of the season, Lucas Giolito pitched six effective innings for the Red Sox. He struck out six batters and walked five, giving up a run and three hits. The four runs scored off Pittsburgh's starter, Keller, were, however, unearned due to an error by Nick Gonzales at second base.
Duran's three-run homer was a pivotal moment in the game. His line drive in right-center field was not caught by Canario, allowing it to roll into the Fenway triangle. The ball bounced off the side wall of Boston's bullpen and was momentarily lost by center fielder Oneil Cruz. By the time it was found, Duran had already raced around the bases.
Alexander Canario did manage to hit a solo homer for the Pirates, but it was not enough to prevent the Red Sox from avert a three-game sweep. Aroldis Chapman closed out the game with three outs for his 27th save.
With this win, the Red Sox have now won for the eighth time in 11 games, a crucial boost in the tight race for one of three American League wild cards. On Monday, Brayan Bello (10-6, 2.99 ERA) is scheduled to start against Cleveland.
Meanwhile, the Pirates will face a different challenge as they play a three-game series at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, there are no search results specifying which Boston Red Sox pitcher is scheduled to start the next game on Monday against Cleveland. Stay tuned for more updates.
