Bremen: Tram Conductor Assailed by Motorbike enthusiast
In an unexpected turn of events, a bicycle procession by SV Werder Bremen fans towards the Weser Stadium on the day of the match against FC Bayern Munich ended in chaos. The incidents, which occurred near the Sielwall intersection, resulted in a tram driver being attacked and slightly injured.
The procession, which started with around 600 fans setting off on bicycles from the Unisee at midday, deviated from the agreed route, causing further incidents. The police officers from Bremen, who were present to support the ultras, were unable to prevent the deviation.
As the procession progressed, the cyclist from the group collided with a tram, shattering the window of the vehicle. The tram driver was then attacked by several participants. Officers had to intervene, using batons among other things, to rescue the driver.
The incidents didn't stop there. Along the route, fans broke through a barrier at Stern and later tried to break through a police cordon in the Gustav-Deetjen tunnel. Ultras from Bremen were also reported to have insulted police officers from Bavaria, who were also present.
As a result of these incidents, several people are being investigated for suspected dangerous bodily harm, insult, and other related offences. The police officers who were insulted are now being investigated as well.
The bicycle procession, which was intended to be a peaceful demonstration of support for SV Werder Bremen, ended in a series of unfortunate events, leaving the tram driver slightly injured and multiple investigations underway.
