In a move that sets it apart as a family-friendly airline, Jet2 has announced a new policy allowing infants under two years old to travel for free on all its flights across Europe, the Canary Islands, and the Mediterranean. This makes Jet2 the first UK airline to offer such a service.

According to the new policy, families have the flexibility to choose whether their infants travel on an adult's lap or in a separate seat. To qualify, the young traveler must be under two years old on the day of travel.

The policy also extends to flight-only bookings, not just Jet2holidays packages. Families will receive an additional 10 kg of baggage allowance for their baby, on top of the standard 22 kg included with adult tickets.

Parents may bring an approved car seat on board if they prefer to purchase a separate seat for their infant. In such cases, no excess baggage fees will be charged for these items if they are placed in the aircraft hold.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, stated that the airline is always looking to improve the travel experience for families. He mentioned that by allowing all children under 2 to travel for free, Jet2 is making travel more accessible for millions of families.

Jet2's new policy also allows families to take two baby-related items for free, such as a pushchair, buggy, car seat, booster seat, baby carrier, or travel cot. Parents can keep their pushchair with them up to the aircraft door, and Jet2 staff will place it in the hold for collection after landing.

Other European airlines, such as Air France and Lufthansa, usually charge 10% of the adult fare for children under two. However, Jet2 is currently the only UK airline that lets babies fly for free to all its destinations.

American Airlines does not charge for infants on domestic flights but applies the 10% rule for international journeys. Other European airlines charging around 10% of the adult fare for children under two, similar to Air France and Lufthansa, include TAROM, which offers a 90% discount for infants without a seat, and to some extent Air Berlin, which charges 15-20% of the flight price for children under two. Jet2's new policy deviates from this pricing model.

This new policy sets Jet2 apart as a family-friendly airline, offering a more affordable and flexible option for families travelling with infants.
