British monarchs honor Queen, keeping distance
Prince Harry is set to visit England for the first time since his father, King Charles III, was diagnosed with cancer. The Duke of Sussex, who lives in California with his wife Meghan, and their children, Prince Archie (6) and Princess Lilibet (4), will attend the WellChild Awards, one of his long-term pet projects.
Harry's visit comes amidst unclear current status of any potential meeting or communication between him and the royal family. The relationship between Harry and his brother, Prince William, is said to be particularly strained, and the two have not seen each other for over a year and a half.
The last encounter between the brothers was said to have lasted only about 30 minutes when Harry came to London after his father's cancer diagnosis. Since then, Harry has only visited the UK alone, and it is unclear if he will see King Charles III during his visit.
In a recent BBC interview in May 2025, Harry expressed a desire for reconciliation with his family, especially following his father's cancer diagnosis in February 2024. He also revealed that some members of his family may never forgive him for writing a book.
Harry's visit to England will not include his family, as he has stated that he won't bring them without personal protection provided by British security agencies. The British media has largely ruled out a meeting between Harry and William in the coming days.
Meanwhile, William and his wife Kate paid tribute to the late monarch during a visit to a UK women's organization. Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.
Harry, who turns 41 next week on September 15, laid a bouquet of flowers at the grave of Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle during a recent visit to England. The visit marks a significant step in what appears to be a complex and ongoing relationship between Harry and the royal family.
As Harry prepares for his visit, the hope for reconciliation between father and son, and between brothers, remains a topic of interest for many. Only time will tell if this visit will bring about any positive changes in the relationships within the royal family.
