Footballer Bruno Henrique Faces Suspension and Criminal Investigation

Brazilian footballer Bruno Henrique is currently embroiled in a controversy that threatens to derail his career. The Superior Tribunal de JustiΓ§a Desportiva (STJD) of Brazil has sentenced him to a suspension of twelve games for sports betting manipulation.

The sports justice process, based on intercepted messages between Bruno Henrique and his sibling, found him guilty of violating the sports ethics code. Specifically, he was found to have acted in a dishonest or fraudulent manner with the aim of influencing the result of a match, event, or equivalent.

The STJD fined Bruno Henrique 60,000 Brazilian Reais for unsportsmanlike conduct. However, the magistrates did not find him guilty of manipulations to deliberately harm a team, as stated in article 243 of the Sports Justice Code.

The Federal Police have also been involved in the case, seizing devices and analyzing 3,989 WhatsApp conversations as part of the investigation against Bruno Henrique. Some of the analyzed conversations were deleted, but the police were still able to gather evidence.

The alleged infraction moment is agreed upon in the intercepted messages between Bruno Henrique and his sibling. This shared information allowed Bruno Henrique's family and friends to win big in online betting platforms.

Bruno Henrique is also being criminally investigated for sports fraud and betting fraud. If proven, these crimes can carry up to 17 years and eight months in prison. The criminal trial for his alleged crimes has not yet been scheduled.

Lawyers for Flamengo and Bruno Henrique maintain the attacker's innocence and have announced an appeal of the sentence. Unfortunately, the names of the judges at the STJD who decided the case of Bruno Henrique have not been disclosed in the search results.
