Budget retailer Action set to establish a 54,000 square meter distribution center in Romania in partnership with WDP.

In a significant move, WDP, a leading European logistics property company, has signed a major agreement with Dutch non-food discounter Action to develop a 54,000 sqm sustainable distribution center at WDP Park Bucharest - Ștefănești.

The project, set to be built on a 15-hectare site, has the potential to expand by an additional 20,000 sqm, providing ample space for future growth. This agreement marks a long-term partnership announced earlier this year between WDP and Action.

Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and will be completed by the end of the same year, representing an investment of around EUR 40 million. Action's store in Pitești will be located next to furniture retailer Momax, further strengthening the commercial hub.

The new hub will be designed to achieve BREEAM Outstanding certification, incorporating photovoltaic panels and advanced energy-efficient systems. This commitment to sustainability aligns with WDP's broader mission to reduce carbon emissions and promote eco-friendly practices across its properties.

Action, which is preparing to enter the Romanian market, has already started construction on one of its stores in Pitești, owned by real estate developer Supernova. The retailer has also revealed plans for openings in Arad, Oradea, Hunedoara, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Cluj, and Bucharest, according to Ziarul Financiar.

WDP, with industrial parks in major cities including Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj, Brașov, and Constanța in Romania, manages nearly 8 million sqm of logistics and semi-industrial properties across Europe. The company operates in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Germany, and Romania, with its Romanian arm currently operating close to 2 million sqm of logistics space.

Action will lease the building under a triple-net agreement of at least 15 years, according to WDP, underlining the long-term commitment of both parties to this partnership. However, further information about the specifics of the partnership between WDP and Action was not provided in the announcement.

The location of the new distribution center, WDP Park Bucharest - Ștefănești, is strategically positioned to serve the growing demands of the Romanian market. With this partnership, both WDP and Action are poised to make a significant impact on the logistics and retail landscapes in Romania.
