Buffalo football team, the Bills, bring on ex-standout player from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Jarveon Howard.
Jarveon Howard, a standout running back from Alcorn State University, has found a new home in the NFL. The Buffalo Bills have signed the undrafted free agent, who previously played for the Green Bay Packers.
Howard made a strong impression at the 2024 NFL Combine, where he displayed his impressive speed by running a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash. He also dominated in the broad jump, vertical jump, and 10-yard split.
During his time at Alcorn State, Howard accumulated 2,048 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns across 22 games. In the 2022 season, he had 1,275 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
Last season, Howard made history in the UFL by making the longest touchdown run in regular-season history. He also had a phenomenal game in the preseason, where he was second on the team with 8 carries for 44 yards.
The Bills already have a former HBCU star in their locker room, Emanuel Wilson, who led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown against the Washington Commanders in a game where Howard also shone.
Wilson, like Howard, has a diverse background, having played for Johnson C. Smith and Fort Valley State before joining the Packers.
It's worth noting that no HBCU player was picked in the 2024 NFL draft, but both Howard and Wilson have seized their opportunities to prove their worth in the league.
The Buffalo Bills, who were an AFC Championship win away from a Super Bowl shot in the previous season, are hoping that Howard's playmaking skills will help them in their quest for the Lombardi Trophy.
As for Howard, he has the chance to continue his journey in the NFL, and fans are eager to see what he can bring to the Bills' offense.
