Brüggen Embraces Renewable Energy with Planned Wind Turbines and Photovoltaic Facility

In a significant step towards the energy transition, the municipality of Brüggen has announced plans to generate electricity through wind turbines and a photovoltaic facility. This initiative, dubbed "Brüggen power," aims to produce approximately 50 million kWh of energy annually.

The wind turbines are slated for construction in the adapted priority areas of the new regional plan. The process of securing land for the three planned wind turbines was extensive, involving extensive negotiations. The council and the supervisory board, who were not affiliated with any specific party, were aware of the need for active participation in the energy transition.

The wind turbines, to be built and operated by the municipal utilities in the Happelter Heath, are expected to generate around 46 million kWh per year. An additional photovoltaic facility is also planned, expected to generate around five million kWh. This annual electricity generation is roughly two and a half times the amount needed for private households in the municipality.

The first "Brüggen power" could flow through the lines in approximately 2.5 years, given that all legal checks are met. This timeline for the first energy flow is a new fact, not mentioned in earlier bullet points.

The municipality has a legal obligation to provide land for renewable energies, a fact that was not previously mentioned. To maximize benefits for the municipality and its citizens, the municipality decided to act independently. The expected profits from the wind turbines will benefit all citizens of Brüggen.

Participation forms for the profits have yet to be decided. However, the decision to act independently was made to secure the greatest possible added value for the municipality and its citizens. The term "Brüggen power" refers to the electricity generated by the wind turbines and the planned photovoltaic facility.

This move by Brüggen is a testament to the municipality's commitment to sustainability and renewable energy. As the world continues to grapple with climate change, initiatives like this one are crucial in the pursuit of a greener future.
