The picturesque Hochsauerlandkreis played host to a thrilling stage of the Deutschland Tour 2025, an event often compared to the Tour de France. This year, the cycling race passed through the region, marking the second successful Lidl Germany Tour to traverse the Sauerland.

The city of Arnsberg was the stage for a challenging loop through the city center, ridden twice, while the second stage from Herford to Neheim was considered the 'queen stage', featuring many short, steep climbs.

Ensuring the safety of participants and spectators was a top priority. On the second and third stage days, numerous police officers from the Hochsauerlandkreis (HSK) worked alongside local authorities, fire department, Red Cross, THW, and voluntary stewards. The measures taken focused on securing the stage finish, where festivities were a key attraction.

In the escort section, Police Officer Kevin Kirschner of the HSK Police Department participated for the first time, leading a team of around 20 police motorcyclists and motorcyclists from different federal states. Their role was to clear any remaining traffic on the route, ensuring a smooth race.

After the third stage race, the forces had to cover another 200 km to Halle, where the fourth stage began on Sunday. The police authorities and helpers responsible for the security of the third stage in Halle have not been explicitly named, but the event involved coordinated safety measures including temporary road closures and significant organizational efforts to ensure a high level of security during the race start and subsequent activities in Halle.

The police operation was led by the director of traffic in the two districts, with support from other Kreispolizeibehörden across the region. Thomas Vogt, head of the HSK Police Department, stated that the event posed high demands on the police in HSK. Despite the challenges, he expressed gratitude towards numerous voluntary helpers, sponsors, administration colleagues, and the police for their support.

Police Inspector Victor Ocansey praised the deployment concept for the Hochsauerlandkreis and Kreis Soest, noting the commitment of the deployment forces and good cooperation with municipalities and other regional police departments.
