Bus Introduces Collective Electric Vehicle Charging Program Firsthand
First Bus Launches Public-Facing EV Charging Hub in Glasgow
First Bus, a leading UK bus operator, has announced its ambitious plan to achieve a zero-emission fleet by 2035. So far, an investment of over £320m has been made towards this goal.
As part of this commitment to decarbonisation, First Bus has launched a shared-charging initiative called First Charge. The first public-facing, ultra-rapid charging hub under this initiative is located at the First Bus Caledonia depot in Glasgow. This depot, situated near the city centre, offers charging facilities for up to 34 fleet and consumer vehicles at any given time.
The charging depot is open for use between 9:00 and 16:30. It supports a wide range of payment options, including contactless, roaming cards, and various apps, making it accessible to businesses, fleet operators, and the wider public.
Glasgow is not the only city benefiting from First Charge. The initiative will utilise 15 First Bus depots across England and Scotland, aiming to provide electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure to a wider audience.
First Charge is not just about providing charging facilities; it's about helping others transition faster. By sharing its charging infrastructure, First Bus is leveraging its industry leadership position to accelerate decarbonisation efforts.
The First Bus Caledonia depot in Glasgow is not just a charging hub; it's also a symbol of the company's commitment to a greener future. With an introductory rate of 0.39 GBP/kWh, it's an affordable step towards a more sustainable transport system.
This move by First Bus is a significant step towards a more environmentally friendly public transport sector in the UK. As more companies follow suit, we can hope for a future where cleaner air and reduced carbon emissions become the norm.
