Business owners in Ekaterinburg are taking their dispute over an illegal gambling establishment in a regular apartment to the courthouse.

In the heart of Yekaterinburg, the Academic District Court is set to host a series of court proceedings that have sent shockwaves through the city. The case in question? An illegal gambling operation that was uncovered in a seemingly ordinary city apartment.

According to investigations, a quintet of men have been charged in connection with the establishment of an illegal casino within the confines of a local residence. The suspects, who include local business partners, a real estate agent, and a real estate operator, are all alleged to have played key roles in the operation.

The gambling evenings, held regularly at the specially equipped apartment, were facilitated through poker and other card sessions. The illegal casino was furnished with a professional gaming table, and attendees were primarily the organizers' acquaintances and business partners.

The disruption of this illicit activity was the work of employees from the Investigative Committee and the Organized Crime Control Department (UBCD). During the search, they seized documentation, including written records containing game results, which are now considered key evidence of the existence of the illegal gambling business.

Charges have been brought against all suspects, but none of them admit guilt. The suspects claim the games were held privately without any financial gain. However, the situation, according to the suspects, is a misunderstanding. The court will determine whether the organization of gambling was systematic and aimed at profit, or if it can be qualified as informal friendly gatherings around a card table.

The trial is expected to be conducted in several stages. The defendant who works in the cargo transportation industry, as well as the one who owns a company specializing in real estate rental and management, generating a revenue of 2.2 million rubles in 2024, will also face the court. A third defendant was involved in real estate operations.

The source of this information is close to the investigation, shedding light on a local scandal that has stirred up the city of Yekaterinburg. As the court proceedings unfold, the city waits with bated breath to see the outcome of this intriguing case.
