Büsum, Germany, Renews Fairtrade Community Status

Büsum, a charming seaside resort in northern Germany, has once again been recognised as a Fairtrade Community. This honour, bestowed upon the town by Fairtrade Germany e.V., signifies Büsum's commitment to sustainable and fair trade practices.

The Tourism Marketing Service Büsum GmbH, a key organisation in the town, has been instrumental in supporting this initiative. Since this year, they have been providing fair-trade products at local blood donation events organised by the DRK local association Büsum.

The Tourism Marketing Service Büsum GmbH, located at South Beach 11, 25761 North Sea Health Resort Büsum, can be reached at +49 (0) 48 34 909-161 (telephone) and +49 (0) 48 34 909-166 (fax). Their official website is www.buesum.de.

Mayor Oliver Kumbartzky expressed his pride in the re-certification, stating that it underscores Büsum's dedication to promoting fair trade and sustainable development.

Büsum is part of an international network of over 2,000 Fairtrade Towns in 36 countries. The Fairtrade Towns campaign, launched to help municipalities implement the sustainable development goals of the United Nations (SDGs), connects politics, civil society, and business to strengthen fair trade locally.

To meet the criteria set by Fairtrade Germany e.V., Büsum has a council resolution supporting fair trade, uses fair-trade coffee in the town hall, has established a local Fairtrade steering group, offers fair-trade products in catering and retail, and actively engages in education and public relations work.

Robert Kowitz, Managing Director of the Tourism Marketing Service Büsum GmbH, plans to make the topic of Fairtrade more visible in the town. The organisation is also actively participating in the Fair Week in September.
