"BYD Debuts in Argentina with Three Distinct Vehicles"
Chinese automaker BYD, trading as BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), has officially entered the Argentine market, marking a significant step in its regional expansion. The company announced the introduction of a series of new energy vehicle (NEV) models in Argentina on August 27.
Deng Yuan, Country Manager for BYD in Argentina, highlighted Argentina as a key market for the company's regional expansion. Pre-orders for three models - the Dolphin Mini, Yuan Pro, and Song Pro DM-i - have already begun in the country.
The exact date when the vehicles will start being delivered to customers in Argentina was not specified. However, Deng Yuan assured that BYD will advance charging infrastructure development in Argentina to support the growing demand for electric vehicles.
The three models introduced as the first batch are all-electric, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and no specific details about the powertrain of each model were mentioned. It's worth noting that in some overseas markets, the Yuan Up has been rebranded as the S1 Pro, suggesting a potential name change for the Argentine market could occur.
In July, BYD sold 344,296 NEVs worldwide, representing a 0.56% year-on-year increase but a 10.01% decrease from June. Overseas sales reached 80,737 units in July, a 169.00% year-on-year increase but a 10.34% decrease month-on-month.
BYD's decision to enter the Argentine market comes amidst reports of suspending plans to build a major car plant in Mexico due to geopolitical tensions. Argentina, however, presents a promising market for the automaker, with Deng Yuan stating that the company sees significant potential for growth in the region.
The pricing details for the three models in the Argentine market were not disclosed, but Deng Yuan emphasised BYD's commitment to providing affordable electric mobility solutions. The Dolphin Mini is known as the Seagull in China, the Yuan Pro as the Yuan Up, and the Song Pro DM-i retains its Chinese name.
As BYD expands its footprint in Argentina, it aims to contribute to the country's sustainable development by promoting the adoption of electric vehicles and improving the charging infrastructure. The company's entry into the Argentine market is a testament to its global ambitions and its commitment to providing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.
