BYD's Tai 7 Hybrid SUV Set for Fourth Quarter Launch

Chinese automotive giant BYD has made significant strides in the electric vehicle market, with its latest offering, the Tai 7 hybrid SUV, set to hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The Tai 7, the largest interior space model among BYD's existing products, was added to the MIIT catalog on July 16 and entered regulatory filing catalog on June 20. It marks a significant expansion for the company, which officially launched its Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, 2023.

The Tai 7 is BYD's first hybrid SUV to adopt a unibody chassis design, offering a two-wheel-drive standard-range version with a 26.6-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC battery range of 135 kilometers. For those seeking more range, the all-wheel-drive long-range version boasts a battery range of up to 180 kilometers.

The Tai 7 is equipped with BYD's God's Eye smart driving system, catering to a wider range of urban driving needs. It will also be available in both LiDAR-equipped and non-LiDAR versions.

The vehicle, which measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, is integrated with a proprietary tablet to enhance the user experience.

BYD began teasing the Tai 7 at the beginning of last month, and the brand currently offers the Bao series, including the Bao 5 and Bao 8 hybrid off-road SUVs, as well as the Tai 3 compact family SUV in the Tai series.

In the first half of 2024, Fang Cheng Bao sold 60,746 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 232.25 percent. The brand recorded a remarkable achievement in June 2024, selling a record 18,903 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 605.34 percent and a month-on-month increase of 50.12 percent.

However, it is not expected that the Tai 7 will launch a pure electric version in the short term, according to Fang Cheng Bao. The start of sales for the Tai 7 hybrid SUV is likely to occur in the fourth quarter of 2025, but the specific city for the launch is not mentioned in the available sources.

With the Tai 7, BYD aims to target the family car market, while the Bao series continues to focus on the off-road vehicle market. The combined range of the Tai 7 exceeds 1,300 kilometers when fully fueled and charged, making it an attractive option for urban families seeking a reliable and efficient vehicle.
