Café NeuHaus seeks budget-friendly lodging options for its female clientele
In the heart of Ingolstadt's old town, at Schrannenstraße 1a, lies Café NeuHaus, a unique haven for women in need. Run by the Catholic Women's Social Service (SkF), this café serves as a protected place of rest, exchange, and a beacon of hope for those struggling to find suitable housing.
For many women, finding a place to call home can be a daunting task, even on digital real estate portals. Some are reluctant to mention their housing distress for fear of being overlooked. Recognising this challenge, SkF is encouraging landlords to have courage, assuring them that all application formalities will be handled, and the rent and security deposit will be covered, following a positive decision.
The centre, which has been operational for eight months, recently released its first balance sheet. Judit Bauer, the managing director of SkF, reported that the centre is reaching affected women and offering them concrete help. In the past few months, 95 women in housing distress have been advised at Café NeuHaus, with 77 cases involving children. So far, 5 cases have resulted in a new home being found for the women.
Café NeuHaus is more than just a place for a warm meal on Tuesdays. It also offers counseling sessions to strengthen women's competencies and work out perspectives. The staff at Café NeuHaus have a good overview of the numerous support options for social and housing services and are willing to establish contact with the relevant city departments on both sides.
SkF Ingolstadt believes that there are landlords in the city who are willing to rent suitable and affordable housing to women in need, with the help of competent advisors. If you are such a landlord, or if you know someone who is, SkF encourages you to reach out. More information about Café NeuHaus and SkF can be found on the SkF homepage: www.skf-ingolstadt.de. The staff can also be reached by phone at 0841 93755-0 and by email at [email protected].
Café NeuHaus is open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and on Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. On Tuesdays, it is open from 10:00 AM through 4:00 PM. Judit Bauer, the managing director of SkF, states that women will go into conversations with potential landlords strengthened after visiting Café NeuHaus.
The first months have shown the urgent need for the search and mediation of suitable housing. For those in need, Café NeuHaus stands as a beacon of hope, offering a safe space, support, and a step towards a new beginning.
