Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson, who previously accomplished what the entire team managed during the previous season, are currently performing admirably, but they faltered in the fourth part.
The Chicago Bears kicked off the 2025 season with a close loss to Minnesota, ending the game 27-24. Despite the defeat, there were some promising moments for the team, particularly for new quarterback Caleb Williams.
Williams' performance was a mixed bag. He started the game on a streak, completing his first ten passes, a feat not seen by a Bears quarterback since 1978. However, in the second half, his completion rate dipped to 42.1%, as he completed 8 of 19 passes.
The Bears' opening drive of the season led them to Minnesota's nine-yard line, culminating in a touchdown by Williams. At halftime, Williams was 13-for-16 passing with an impressive 81.2 completion percentage.
The Bears' defense played admirably until the fourth quarter, but the team struggled to maintain momentum due to batted balls and penalties. Williams acknowledged these issues, emphasising the importance of getting in and out of the huddle quickly and completing checkdown passes to keep drives going.
The Bears are aiming for a turnaround this season, seeking their first winning season since 2018 and their first playoff win since 2010. They will have to shake off the Week 1 loss quickly, as they travel to face the Detroit Lions in Week 2.
It's important to remember that it's only Week 1, and there's still a long season ahead. Williams, along with the rest of the team, will undoubtedly be looking to build on the positives and learn from the negatives as they strive for success.
