Calgary drowning casualty honored for their kindness, empathy, and radiance
In a heartbreaking incident, two young men, one of whom has been identified as Caelan Escalante, drowned in Mahogany Lake in Calgary on Wednesday. The Calgary Fire Department's aquatic rescue team recovered the bodies of the victims, both in their 20s.
Caelan Escalante was a beloved member of the First Assembly Church in Calgary's Mayfair neighbourhood. He served as the lighting director and was known for his positive attitude, smile, and kindness. His co-worker, Gabriel Dantas, found him pleasant to work with.
The First Assembly Church is described as a close-knit community, and coming to terms with Caelan's sudden death has been challenging for Dantas and the entire congregation. The church is in mourning, and a celebration of life for Caelan will be held at the First Assembly Church on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
The identity of the second victim who died at Mahogany Lake has not been publicly disclosed. The two young men were members of the First Assembly Church, and the community is rallying together to support their families. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the families of the young men, with the page describing Caelan as a person full of passion, love, and life who cared deeply for his friends and family.
Caelan Escalante had recently been accepted into Bible college and was excited about his future. His legacy will be remembered as one of kindness, compassion, and positivity. The First Assembly Church asks for prayers for the families of the victims and for the community as they navigate this difficult time.
