Cappadocia's official capital designation now belongs to Göreme

In the enchanting region of Cappadocia, the small town of Goreme has taken centre stage, officially designated as the "Capital of Cappadocia" by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. This historic designation acknowledges Goreme's unique place within Cappadocia, a region renowned for its fairy chimneys, valleys, and rock-carved historic sites.

Goreme, with a permanent population of around 2,314, receives millions of tourists annually, hosting hundreds of times its own population. The town's status as a cradle of tourism in Cappadocia is evident in its numerous offerings, including over 252 hotels, more than 100 souvenir shops, nearly 130 travel agencies, and a plethora of activities such as balloon tours, off-road tours, and horseback tours.

The registration of the designation "Capital of Cappadocia" was conducted by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, and the title was officially registered with a Trademark Registration Certificate. The Goreme Municipality, proud of its achievement, will emphasize the "Capital of Cappadocia" brand during major events, promotional activities, and fairs.

Local tourism professional, Suleyman Yucefaydalı, expresses his pride in Goreme's position as a leading tourist destination. He notes that tourists often recommend Goreme to others when they leave, captivated by the town's charm and the numerous activities it offers.

Goreme's unique appeal is further underscored by its hosting of the Goreme Open-Air Museum and hot-air balloon launch sites. During the Cappadocia Balloon Festival, the town's view is nothing short of magnificent, with balloon figures taking flight from the Goreme area.

Moreover, Goreme is home to the Goreme National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park, with its stunning landscape and rich history, serves as a testament to the town's significance within Cappadocia.

Goreme Mayor Omer Eren made a statement to the state-run Anadolu Agency regarding the designation, expressing his joy and pride in the town's recognition. He emphasized that the title belongs not just to Goreme, but to all of Cappadocia, reflecting the shared pride and ownership of the region's residents.

As Goreme continues to thrive as the "Capital of Cappadocia," it remains a must-visit destination for tourists seeking a unique and unforgettable experience in this magical region.
