Car Accident leads to Arrest: Teenager, aged 18, nabbed by authorities after evading police control
In a dramatic turn of events early Friday morning, an 18-year-old driver found themselves in hot water following a high-speed chase in Langenselbold, Southeast Hesse.
The incident began in Niederissigheim, where a black Opel, occupied by several individuals, was spotted with a tampered license plate. Witnesses reported seeing the Opel driving without lights as it sped away.
The police, who were alerted to the situation, signaled the driver to stop. However, the driver chose to flee, leading the police on a chase that continued along the L3195 towards Roßdorf, often exceeding the permitted 100 km/h.
The chase ended at the "Turbo-Roundabout" (Friedberger Landstraße / Hauptstraße) where the 18-year-old lost control of the Opel and collided with a traffic sign. The vehicle spun and came to a stop, sustaining property damage.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The 18-year-old who tried to flee during the traffic stop later appeared at the police station in Bruchköbel, but is not publicly identified.
It was later revealed that the 18-year-old likely did not have a driver's license, had apparently consumed drugs, and the license plates did not belong to the Opel. The police are now investigating suspicions of driving without a license, endangering traffic, hit-and-run, and a violation of the compulsory insurance law.
Something unidentifiable was thrown out of the car during the chase. Witnesses are asked to contact the Langenselbold police station to provide any additional information they may have.
In a separate development, the 17-year-old passenger is now facing a charge under the Cannabis Law (KCanG) as an item thrown from the vehicle was identified as a small amount of marijuana.
The 18-year-old attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by a faster officer and handcuffed.
