Car Crash under Strict Lockdown: Vehicle Hits Barrier in Area A2
On Monday, 8th September 2025, a series of collisions occurred on the A2 near Bielefeld, Germany. The incident involved a Volkswagen ID 7 and a traffic sign truck, followed by a rear-end collision in the opposite direction at approximately 08:35.
Initial investigations suggest that a 50-year-old man from Frankfurt, driving a Volkswagen Golf, may have caused the initial collision. The driver of the VW ID 7, a 30-year-old man from Hürth, was driving towards Hannover at around 08:30. The cause of the collision with the traffic sign truck remains unknown.
Both vehicles were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed. The VW ID 7 was a total loss. Outside of office hours, inquiries can be made to the Control Center.
Shortly after, a rear-end collision involving five vehicles occurred on the opposite lane, heading towards Dortmund. The estimated total damage to the five vehicles involved is around €25,000. The 37-year-old truck driver from Mannheim, who was standing next to his vehicle during the accident, was seriously injured. A witness reported driving over debris and potential damage to their vehicle. Two vehicles involved in the rear-end collisions had to be towed.
The collision occurred between the Ostwestfalen-Lippe and Herford-Bad Salzuflen exits on the A2 heading towards Hannover. Both directions of the A2 were temporarily closed for the landing of a rescue helicopter at around 09:10. The right lane of the A2 heading towards Hannover was reopened at around 09:35, while the left and right lanes remained closed for accident investigation and vehicle recovery until 11:00.
The left and middle lanes of the A2 were closed for investigation until 09:20. The 30-year-old driver sustained minor injuries. The total damage to the traffic sign truck and the truck is estimated to be approximately €15,000.
