Car Fire on Autobahn 3 in Frankfurt Triggers Extensive Emergency Response
Breaking News: A3 Motorway Incident in Frankfurt
On July 15, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred on the A3 motorway in Frankfurt. A burning pickup truck required a large deployment of police and firefighters, causing a significant disruption to traffic.
According to a report provided by Frankfurt Police Headquarters and transmitted via news aktuell, the incident took place around 12:30 PM. The driver of the pickup truck, a 43-year-old individual, noticed smoke coming from the ventilation and engine compartment. In an attempt to avoid further damage, the driver steered the vehicle onto the hard shoulder below the East roll bridge and left it.
The truck was completely on fire, and the installed gas tank detonated. This caused significant damage to the road surface and the tunnel ceiling. Traffic had to be stopped in both directions of the A3 due to heavy smoke. The nearby airport was informed about the restricted visibility.
Fortunately, the driver remained unharmed. The full closure in the direction of Würzburg was lifted after approximately 40 minutes. However, the Cologne direction remained closed for another hour until at least the left lane was reopened.
An expert was called in to address the damage to the road surface and tunnel ceiling. The bridge structure was inspected and reopened for aircraft traffic. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the criminal police.
The pickup truck, which was only recently registered, is estimated to have a total loss in the high five-figure range. At present, the total damage from the incident cannot yet be quantified.
