Car Fire on Danziger Straße/B 8n in Kalkum Following Traffic Incident - Road Blocked for Extended Hours Due to Vehicle Inflaming Accident

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 3:17 p.m., a significant incident occurred on the B8n between Kaiserswerth and Kalkum. A rear-end collision involving a car and a car-trailer combination took place, resulting in heavy traffic and road closures.

The driver of the car-trailer combination, a 49-year-old Dutchman, remained unscathed in the accident. Unfortunately, the driver of the car from Dinslaken, a 61-year-old man, was unable to brake in time, leading to the collision. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Düsseldorf for treatment.

Immediately following the impact, the car caught fire and burned completely. The ensuing blaze engulfed the vehicle, causing further complications for emergency services and recovery operations.

In response to the incident, police implemented a full closure in the direction of Duisburg. Incoming vehicles were diverted via the Niederrheinstraße during the closure. One lane was reopened around 7:00 p.m., but the B8n between Kaiserswerth and Kalkum was closed again during fire-fighting and recovery operations.

The accident caused considerable traffic disruption, with the closure remaining in effect until the evening. Despite extensive searches, no further information about the incident could be found.

We hope that all parties involved in the accident recover quickly and that the roads return to normal soon. Stay safe on the roads, and remember to always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
