In the remote region of Yakutia, a dramatic rescue operation took place on May 6, as two men were successfully evacuated from a marshy area in the Mirinsky District.

The incident occurred on May 5, when the operational duty officer of the "Yakutia Rescue Service" received a report about two individuals needing help in the Mirinsky District. The men, residents of the Lensky District, were travelling in an amphibious vehicle towards the village of Tas-Yuryakh. While crossing a stream, the vehicle sank through the ice.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the men were able to call for help using their mobile devices. Services such as VKontakte, Classmates, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Twitter were utilised, allowing them to reach out for help. Fortunately, a mobile signal was available in the area, enabling them to contact the "Yakutia Rescue Service" for assistance.

The leadership of the "Yakutia Rescue Service" conducted a search and rescue operation by helicopter. However, the amphibious vehicle was not found during the initial search and rescue operation. It was later discovered, approximately 134 kilometres from the city of Lensk, stuck in a marshy area.

The men, who managed to get to the shore after the incident, were found during the subsequent search and rescue operation. They were lifted onto the helicopter and taken to the city of Lensk, where they are currently feeling well and have refused medical assistance, as stated by Alexander Samortsov, head of the Lensky Search and Rescue Squad of the "Yakutia Rescue Service".

It is worth noting that the location of the amphibious vehicle during the search and rescue operation was different from where it initially sank through the ice. The exact cause of the vehicle's movement is currently under investigation.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges and dangers posed by the harsh conditions in remote regions like Yakutia. The quick response and effective action by the "Yakutia Rescue Service" undoubtedly played a crucial role in the successful rescue of these two men.
