Harris English Secures Ryder Cup Spot with Impressive Season

Harris English, the American golfer, has secured a place on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, following his outstanding performance at the BMW Championship. English currently sits fifth on the men's combined Major leaderboard for the year, with a total score of five under overall.

After undergoing hip surgery in February 2022 and missing four months of the season, English has made a remarkable comeback. His latest achievement at the Travelers Championship saw him tie for fourth, earning him 60 world ranking points and boosting his ranking to 8th.

The qualifying period for the Ryder Cup ends after the BMW Championship on 17 August, and English's consistent performances have secured him the sixth and final automatic qualifying place for the Ryder Cup. Captain Keegan Bradley announced this following the tournament.

English's dream of making the Ryder Cup team may now be less than a month away. The Ryder Cup will take place at Bethpage Black between September 26 and 28.

Prior to The Open, English's career high world ranking was 10, achieved on July 18th 2021. However, his performance at The Open this year saw his ranking rise significantly. He finished the tournament in second place, four strokes behind Scottie Scheffler, who won The Open at Royal Portrush.

Despite the strong competition from golfers such as Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, and Scheffler, English has managed to hold his ground. His new career-high world ranking shows no signs of tailing off, and his dream of representing the U.S. in the Ryder Cup seems to be within reach.

English's impressive season was also marked by his win at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2023, which was his fifth PGA Tour win. His final score at the Travelers Championship was 13 under, demonstrating his consistent form.

English admitted that a place in the Ryder Cup is in his sights, and with his current form, he is certainly a strong contender. The golfing world eagerly awaits to see how he will perform at the Ryder Cup in September.
