Cars, fashion, and culture showcased at the globe's hippest icy racing venue
In the heart of the Austrian Alps, the FAT International Ice Race recently took place, and Polestar was there to make a statement. Shana Claessens, a Belgian racing driver, reflected on how driving a Polestar 4 mirrored her driving experience, as she navigated the icy track alongside some of the industry's top racers.
The main event was the high-octane racing, with vehicles sporting heavily spiked wheels screeching around the ice. Polestar joined the fray, showcasing its Arctic Circle collection. This unique line-up consisted of one-of-a-kind show cars, fitted with specialized ice racing tyres and distinctive white and yellow coats.
The Electric Garage, Polestar's hub, was not just a showroom but a high-tech space designed to create memorable moments. It featured racing simulators, bespoke helmet painting, and a futuristic look. The centerpiece of the Electric Garage was an elevated Polestar 5, a four-door Grand Tourer set to become Polestar's most powerful car and available to customers later this year.
Polestar Architect, Dragan Pavlovic, described the task as challenging and inspiring, praising the unique opportunity provided by the frozen airfield in the middle of the Alps. Dan Persson, Polestar's Strategic Creative Director, explained that events like the FAT Ice Race, in front of a performance-driven crowd, were opportunities to create such memorable moments.
The event was filled with "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" activities, including Flying Bulls, helicopter rides, and special VIP paddocks. Swimming superstar and Polestar Ambassador Sarah Sjoฬstroฬm participated in the event, expressing her enjoyment after her hot lap with Thed Bjork, one of Sweden's greatest ever racing drivers and a Polestar enthusiast with a history with Cyan Racing, the early predecessor of Polestar.
As for the designer of the Electric Garage for the FAT International Ice Race, further information was not available. However, Sergio Marques, another Polestar driver, found his home wherever his Polestar took him, with Jokkmokk, reindeer, and Northern Lights territory being his temporary home for one weekend in late February.
Looking ahead, Polestar is set to bring its unique take on racing culture to the paddock of the Mille Miglia, a unique race and fashion parade, scheduled for 2025. With its commitment to creating thought-provoking, hands-on moments, Polestar continues to push the boundaries of what it means to be a part of the automotive world.
