VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to establish its presence in India with the opening of 32 dealerships across 27 cities. The company has partnered with 13 automotive dealership companies to achieve this ambitious goal in its first phase.
The initial focus of VinFast's dealerships will be on metro cities and emerging EV hubs such as Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. In addition, dealerships will also be established in Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Cochin, Bhubaneswar, Trivandrum, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Surat, Calicut, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Shimla, Agra, Jhansi, Gwalior, Vapi, Vadodara, and Goa.
VinFast is set to launch two SUV models in India - the VF6 and the VF7. The VF6 SUV is aimed at the mass-market EV buyer, while the VF7 is positioned higher and will compete against premium options.
The VF6 SUV's Plus trim offers 204 bhp, 310 Nm, and a driving range of 381 km (WLTP), powered by a 59.6 kWh battery. The Eco trim offers slightly less power (178 bhp, 250 Nm) but maintains a respectable driving range of up to 399 km. On the other hand, the VF7 SUV's Plus trim features dual-motor AWD, producing 354 bhp and 500 Nm, with a driving range of 431 km. The Eco trim offers 204 bhp, 310 Nm, and a driving range of 450 km.
The VF7 SUV is expected to be priced in the range of ₹60-65 Lakhs, while the VF6 SUV will be priced between ₹30-45 Lakhs. Pre-bookings for both VinFast SUVs have begun at a token amount of ₹21,000. The launch of both VinFast SUVs is scheduled for the first week of September.
The VinFast VF6 SUV will rival models such as the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Mahindra BE6, while the VF7 SUV will compete against premium options such as the Volvo EX30, BYD Sealion 7, and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Both SUVs will be assembled at the company's upcoming facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
With its expansion into India, VinFast aims to contribute to the growing EV market in the country and provide consumers with affordable and high-quality electric vehicles. The company's entry into the Indian market is expected to bring more competition and innovation, benefiting consumers in the long run.
