Fatal Accident on Federal Highway B7 near Utzberg and Nohra
A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday morning at approximately 08:30 on the federal highway B7 between Utzberg and Nohra.
According to the Jena Police Headquarters, the accident involved a truck and a tractor-trailer. The truck veered onto the opposite lane and collided with the tractor-trailer, causing both vehicles to end up in the ditch, with the tractor-trailer tipping over.
The force of the impact was so severe that it also caused the truck to collide with a following car. Fortunately, the driver of the car sustained only minor injuries. However, the 20-year-old truck driver had to be rescued from his vehicle and was airlifted to a hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer also sustained minor injuries.
The tractor-trailer's fuel tank ruptured, spilling fuel, and it lost part of its load, consisting of several thousand beverage bottles.
The Thuringian Police have requested an expert to reconstruct the accident, and after the investigation, they directed traffic around the accident site using single-lane traffic management. The B7 was fully closed for about 4 hours for the accident investigation.
