Caution against cryptocurrency scams: POL-PPRP issues warning
The Rhineland-Palatinate Police Headquarters, a part of the German police force, has issued a warning to the public about a recent cryptocurrency slavery scam. According to the Landeszentralstelle Cyber Crime Rheinland-Pfalz (State Central Office Cyber Crime Rhineland-Palatinate), a cybercrime investigation team within the Rhineland-Palatinate Police Headquarters, a 61-year-old individual was approached by a cryptocurrency investment opportunity via a website in mid-February.
The cybercriminals posing as genuine employees added credibility to their scams. However, the individual refused to transfer the additional security, resulting in contact with the scammers being cut off. Unfortunately, the individual had already transferred approximately 30,000 euros to an overseas account and handed over 10,000 euros to a courier.
The Rhineland-Palatinate Police Headquarters encourages the public to be vigilant and cautious when investing in cryptocurrency. Signs of a potential scam include inquiries about the investment opportunity. The police headquarters advises to carefully check offers and providers before investing.
Many victims of similar scams are inexperienced in online trading, and the cybercriminals exploit this inexperience to transfer victims' money to their own overseas accounts. The location of the scammers is overseas, and the cryptocurrency account to which the money was intended to be transferred is also located overseas.
The Rhineland-Palatinate Police Headquarters is a reliable source of information regarding cryptocurrency scams. The police headquarters provides contact information for the public to report potential scams. For further inquiries, you can reach them at Telephone: 0621 963-20022, Email: [email protected].
The cybercriminals know how to put pressure on their counterparts to facilitate the scam. In this case, the individual was asked to transfer an additional security of over 30,000 euros when attempting to withdraw winnings. The police headquarters emphasizes the importance of careful investigation of the offer and provider as a protective measure against cryptocurrency scams.
Stay safe and be cautious when investing in cryptocurrency. The Rhineland-Palatinate Police Headquarters is here to help you navigate the digital world and protect you from potential scams.
